Vishakha’s Journey: How Education and Entrepreneurship Changed Her Life
18th Oct 2024
In the village of Barel, Hamirpur district in Himachal Pradesh, 34-year-old Vishakha’s story answers how dreams transform into reality. With an educational degree and a heart full of aspirations, Vishakha participated in the Women’s Literacy Program to help other women learn to read and write, opening doors to their brighter future.
As an educator, Vishakha poured her passion into making learning engaging and fun. She turned lessons into games, using puzzles and playful activities with letters and numbers. Her unique approach brought joy and enthusiasm to her learners, who thrived under her guidance. But Vishakha’s vision extended beyond literacy. She wanted to uplift her entire community.
Mukul Madhav Foundation volunteers met her at the Bundelkhand Entrepreneurship Development Project, supported by and implemented by BAIF Livelihoods. She told us about her dream of becoming an entrepreneur. An assessment of her skills showed she could learn to sew through the training programme. Determined to succeed, she borrowed ₹10,000 to purchase a sewing machine and materials. Soon, the hum of her sewing machine became familiar in the village.
With each stitch, Vishakha’s dreams expanded. Her tailoring business flourished, and she began earning approximately ₹6,000 per month, providing crucial support to her family. Her journey from an educator to an entrepreneur inspired everyone around her. At Mukul Madhav Foundation, we are honoured to support individuals like Vishakha. Her story personifies the essence of our mission: empowering people to fulfil their true potential with dignity and hope. We celebrate Vishakha’s achievements and remain committed to nurturing such transformative journeys through our programmes for rural development in India.
