Perseverance Wins
Siddarth's Journey
2nd Aug 2024
How does a young boy overcome significant physical challenges and thrive against all odds? Siddarth, a 13-year-old from the small village of Basarikatti in Karnataka, shows us how. Born prematurely and weighing only 1.5 kg, Siddarth had an enlarged head and minimal limb movement. Diagnosed with a locomotor disease, he found it challenging to walk independently or write.
His father, a carpenter, and his mother, a housewife, always provided a loving and supportive environment for him and his siblings despite their limited monthly income of just fifteen thousand rupees. They never gave up hope, even as Siddarth faced difficulties performing simple tasks.
In January 2023, Siddarth and his family found support for his special educational needs and disability. We at MMF created a tailored plan for his development. Now, Siddarth engages in a series of educational and rehabilitation activities. He is learning to read and write the alphabet, recognise the names of flowers and animals, and practice slow writing. His exercises also include understanding money exchange concepts and copying mathematical tables. Drawing shapes and colouring with crayons are activities he enjoys, and they help improve his motor skills.
Therapy sessions are crucial to Siddarth’s progress. At MMF, we organise stretching exercises, balance training, and various Activities of Daily Living (ADL). We also provide counselling and training to his parents, enabling them to support him effectively, especially during ADL.
Siddarth has shown remarkable improvement. He writes more legibly and moves with greater ease. His progress proves how a young boy’s determination and the support from those who care for him can overcome significant challenges. We are proud to be part of Siddarth’s journey and to witness his inspiring triumph over adversity.
