Pedalling towards a Better Future
7th Mar 2025

Daily wage workers in rural India very often commute long distances on foot. While it is a daily struggle, it is also a norm for people engaged in rural employment. Most do not even consider this a situation to remedy. Kashinat Rathod and Madhukar Shirtode faced similar challenges reaching their workplaces in Khandala, Maharashtra. With limited public transport options and meagre earnings, the cost and time spent travelling impacted their ability to take on consistent work.
Mukul Madhav Foundation provides livelihood support to vulnerable communities so they are better equipped to be self-sustaining. Our volunteers reviewed the situation and came up with a cycle donation initiative for both of them. These men only needed reliable transport to get where they wanted to go. This simple yet effective solution has transformed their ability to earn a living. They can now reach job sites faster and take on more work opportunities.
Kashinath is a mason. He supports a family of three on a monthly income of less than Rs.10,000. The bicycle has reduced his dependency on irregular public travel and costly private transport. Similarly, Madhukar is an agricultural labourer. His earning is below Rs.8,000 per month. He now saves both time and money on travelling. His productivity has increased, and his overheads have been reduced simultaneously.
Mukul Madhav Foundation’s support for workers is part of our commitment to livelihood support and rural employment. Like other NGO’s for the underprivileged, we do not solve just the immediate problem through charitable giving. Our team addresses the root cause by removing such small yet critical barriers to dignified earnings. Our support for workers extends beyond financial aid to practical solutions that create long-term impact.
