In its continuous efforts to help and support the senior citizens, FIL/MMF supported GSICON 2018 organised in Pune. This conference was organised by Geriatric Society of India, Pune Chapter in association with Indian Institute of Science, Education and Research (IISER), Pune.
The main aim of conference was to exchange views on care of elderly and providing an update with the latest developments in the field of Geriatric Medicine. The theme of this tree day conference was “Getting Old is Mandatory, Feeling old is Optional” emphasising the need for a positive and optimistic outlook towards old age.
MMF took an initiative to train ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activists) workers in Geriatric care and 30 ASHA workers to attend the conference. This initiative will enable to create awareness in rural areas and take proper care of old people in villages.
The conference was addressed by Dr. Sandeep Tamane -Member of geriatric society of India, Dr. Sudhir Chavan – Shrimati Kasibai Navale College of Agriculture, Dr. Smita Athavale – Dentist, Dr. Sudhakar Kulkarni – Investment Expert, Dr. Rohini Patwardhan – Geriatric Expert, Dr. Ramesh Godbole – Diabetic Expert and old Marathi Actress Mrs. Sulochana. Expert guidance was provided on the care, diet, to be taken in old age including the financial management. The conference was attended by 270 senior citizens.
