Mukul Madhav Foundation flagged off its 2nd Annual Cyclothon from Pune to Ratnagiri on the 8th of December 2015, with 2 cyclists Prof Ram Dhillon (Renowned ENT surgeon from UK) and Mr. Rakesh Bakshi (Bicycle Angel’s founder, film maker & author of ‘The Director’s Diaries’) along with 20 Doctors from the renowned hospitals of Pune including KEM, H V Desai Eye Hospital & Bharati Vidyapeeth Hospital. They made pit-stops at 4 locations i.e. Shirwal, Umbraj, Kokrud & Pali, and set-up medical camps there to screen 2960 children in the Zila Parishad schools and provide FREE ENT, Dental, Eye & General check-ups. Bicycle Angel’s also donated 8 bi-cycles to needy individuals in those areas, to help them improve their livelihood means.
Hygiene hampers comprising of toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, biscuit and a Frooty, were also distributed to all children at the camps. A total of 1093 children were identified who were in need of medical assistance. The data collected from these medical camps shows a shocking number of 64% cases identified to be children suffering from ENT, hearing and speech impairments. We are now in the process of obtaining necessary consents from parents and identifying local hospitals where these children may be treated if possible, else we will bring them to Pune for further treatments. Mukul Madhav will also help these children in financial aids, if required for their treatments.
The event would not have been complete without the generous sponsorship offered by Finolex Pipes, who sponsored the complete accommodation arrangements and other necessities at the camp, and Ashok Leyland, our associate transport partner. A special mention also goes out to Bicycle Angel’s, who sponsored 8 bi-cycles to be donated at the camp, and the team of 15 cyclists from Giantstarkenn bikes, who joined us to motivate our team for the initial 30 kms of the ride.
MMF would like to thank the principals and staff of all the Zila Parishad schools, who co-operated whole heartedly to make these camps a huge success!
