On the occasion of World Cerebral Palsy Day on the 5th of October, MMF organized a free physiotherapy camp for children with Cerebral Palsy, at Kanishk Hall, Satara, on the 7th of October 2016 and at the Finolex Rehabilitation Centre, Mirajkar Hospital, Wai on the 14th and 15th of October 2016. Physiotherapists and doctors from Sancheti Hospital, Pune provided free consultation and physiotherapy to these children. A total of 112 children benefited from these camps.
Apart from this, parents and relatives were also shown educational videos about Cerebral palsy and how to help their children in a better way. The children also enjoyed an entertainment act by a magician and free refreshments and snacks for all. A special mention and token of gratitude to Mr. Mayur Vora of Mapro foods, who generously sponsored the lunch for children, parents and volunteers at our physiotherapy camps on the 14th and 15th of October 2016, at Wai. We would also like to thank the mobile teachers, block coordinators and officials of Satara, who have been a continuous support to us during this project.
Following the camps, 9 wheelchairs & 1 commode were distributed to identified beneficiaries on the 21st of October 2016 at Satara. This donation was organized at the Day care centre of Satara and was attended by Sou. Punita Gurav, Primary Education officer, Zila Parishad Satara.
Today, having completed 11 months on this project, after conducting 3 assessment camps, 2 physiotherapy camps and setting up a rehabilitation centre at Mirajkar Hospital in Wai, MMF has a list of 502 children affected with Cerebral Palsy so far!
In order to spread awareness about Cerebral palsy via the All India Radio we have been airing a program “Haunsla Aage Badne Ka”, every Wednesday at 10.15 AM. This show provides tips to parents of what all services should be given to their child, expert opinions, feedback and experiences shared as well as an appeal to the general masses, neighbours and volunteers who would like to join this project.
As our next steps, we are looking into helping them to obtain disability certificates for their children so that they can avail of benefits under Government schemes.
