Rising Above: Naresh Kumari’s Path to Financial Freedom
18th Oct 2024
In Barel village, nestled in the heart of Hamirpur district in Himachal Pradesh, 35-year-old Naresh Kumari has embodied how a woman in a rural village can turn her life around. Illiterate yet ambitious, she got a remarkable opportunity when the Women’s Literacy Centre, providing education in rural areas, opened its doors to her. Naresh Kumari, despite the challenges, attended classes diligently every day. From mastering the art of reading and writing to learning how to fill out banking forms, she embraced each lesson enthusiastically. Clearly, she saw education as a way to carve out a better future for herself and her family.
Mukul Madhav Foundation (MMF) volunteers met her through the Bundelkhand Entrepreneurship Development Project. As a part of the programme, we offered her training sessions on jaggery production. Naresh Kumari seized this chance with both hands. She saw in it a path to prosperity, a way to turn her dreams into reality.
With determination etched in her every step, she got a loan of ₹20,000 through a Joint Liability Group (JLG). With her newfound knowledge and financial support, she dove into jaggery production. Every day, she poured her heart and soul into her business, watching with pride as her efforts bore fruit. She produced ten quintals of jaggery, which fetched a sum of ₹35,000 in the market.
Looking towards the future, with plans to expand her production and increase her income, she stands as a shining example for her community. Her journey shows how support and determination can transform the lives of rural women who have limited means. We are proud to play a part in supporting women entrepreneurs like Naresh Kumari, helping them achieve their dreams and inspire others to tread the path of progress.
