Chirag’s Journey: From Struggles to Success
22nd Oct 2024
In the quiet village of Sedal, Gujarat, 25-year-old Chirag’s life wasn’t always sunny. Living with his widowed, disabled mother and elderly grandmother, he struggled to make ends meet. Chirag worked as a labourer and earned a meagre Rs. 200 daily. The work was tiring and the days were long, and there seemed to be no way out of his situation at one point.
When Mukul Madhav Foundation (MMF) volunteers met him, we were running the Promoting Favourable Ecosystem and Nutrition for Entrepreneurship campaigns in Vadodara. Designed to help trivial communities break the cycle of poverty, the programme offered Chirag guidance and resources to start his own business.
With that support, Chirag launched a Dabeli cart. And soon enough, his small venture started gaining popularity, which led to him a net profit of over Rs. 300 per day. He felt independent for the first time in his life and along with providing for family, he started saving for the future.
One of Chirag’s proudest achievements has been saving Rs. 5,000 for his sister’s shrimant, a ceremony that celebrates expectant mothers. Chirag is excited about becoming an uncle, and the shrimant symbolises more than just tradition for him. It’s a note of how far he has come. He is now a proud provider, who wants to change his family’s lifestyle for good. Our team went to check on him, and we discussed the future. Chirag dreams of expanding his business by setting up a Pav Bhaji cart in the evenings. And we, at MMF, can only hope that he achieves success in everything he does.
