Amruta's Story: A Story of Overcoming Challenges with SEND Support
21st Oct 2024
How often do we see potential dimmed by a lack of resources or knowledge? Amruta Rudrappa Haladi, a bright young girl from Mavinakatti village in Karnataka, faced such a challenge. Born prematurely, she battled hearing loss that significantly impacted her communication and ability to learn alongside her peers in Year 3 at GHPS Mavinakatti Belagavi. Despite her parents noticing difficulties early on, navigating the world with a disability felt isolating.
Mukul Madhav Foundation supports individuals like Amruta, recognising their special educational needs and disability (SEND). Through a thorough assessment, we created an Individualised Education Plan (IEP) and Individual Rehabilitation Plan (IRP) tailored to Amruta’s strengths and challenges.
Providing hearing aids and speech and language therapy became Amruta’s key to unlocking her potential. Engaging in these activities alongside arts, crafts, and even outdoor games (running being a particular favourite!), her confidence grew. Peer group training gave her a sense of belonging and allowed her to learn from her classmates in a supportive environment.
But Amruta’s journey wasn’t just hers alone. It extended to her family. We guided her, supporting her development at home and ensuring a holistic approach to her progress. Today, Amruta attends school regularly, participates in class, and thrives.
Amruta’s story shows us the transformative power of intervention. It highlights the importance of recognising SEND needs and providing the tools necessary for children to blossom. Her journey is a call to action, a reminder that with the right support systems in place, every child has the potential to achieve their dreams.
